Nursery Progress: Furniture

Yay! We finally got some furniture assembled and installed!

Our first purchase was the crib.  We scored a great deal on it (under $300 shipped with 2 day delivery) I couldn't pass it up and plus it was just what I was looking for. I wanted a white crib with clean straight lines and this one had it and much more! I love that it is white, modern looking and it has a storage drawer below which is a plus in my book (the more storage, the better). It also converts to a toddler bed which is good when baby girl is older or we may just keep it as a crib and use it for our future second child. I was so thrilled when it arrived I asked hubby to assemble it right away LOL.

Next purchase was the dresser. We bought the Ikea Hemnes dresser in white and I love it even more with the drawer pulls I purchased. It originally came with black knobs which I didn't like, so I purchased come cute round pulls in gold. I searched everywhere for them online and I finally found them for a really good price. It definitely makes the dresser look a lot better and more expensive.

We are not done shopping for furniture yet. I still want to get a few more things. So far everything is slowly coming together and I cannot wait to reveal her room once it's all done.

As for a the design/decor, I've kind of change up the plan from my first post about the nursery. I honesty thought we were having a boy before we found out baby was a girl. Therefore, I was focus on ideas that were mostly masculine but now I'm moving towards having more feminine colors and decor.

Nursery Progress: Painting the Walls

We finally were able to start working on baby's nursery again after several weekends of events which consist of: our gender reveal party, two birthdays to attend, going out of town for a weekend, shopping for baby's furniture and of course cleaning up where we left off in the guest room (you can read more here from the last post). Yea, we've been kind of busy as you can tell and it still continues for the next few weeks. 

My idea for the nursery was to have the walls painted in a light gray color with stripes on two end of the wall (opposite of each other).  The paint we choose is the Behr Premium Plus Ultra Interior paint and primer in one from Home Depot. Not only do we love the fact that we can skip the whole 'priming the wall before color', but the color payoff is amazing! One coat is good but we usually like to do two coats just to make sure the coverage is prefect and plus Behr Premium Ultra Paint has never disappointed us. We used it for our bedroom, the dining room and living room. After looking over several paint swatches, the color we choose for BH nursery is Sterling and Sliver Sky, both in satin. 

Day 1: Painting the Walls

After cleaning and prepping the walls bit by bit after work, we finally were able to start painting on Saturday. We start off by applying Sliver Sky on all four walls. After the first coat and a half we realize that 1 gallon wouldn't be enough to finish the second coat. This was moment to take a much needed break as it was almost dinner time (6pm). So back to Home Depot we go to purchase another gallon and then off to eat dinner. We got back home around 8:30 and we (mostly Hubby) went to work right away with finishing off applying the second coat.

Next day after two coats. Ready for the stripes. 

 Day 2: Stripe Walls 

The first step was to measure the walls where the stripes would be at. Because the room has a vaulted ceiling, I measured the highest point. From the top of the base board to the ceiling was 9'-9" which is 117". In order to figure out the how thick I want the stripes to be, I took 117 and figured out what number divides evenly with it. In this case it was 9. So 9" per stripes equals 13 stripes all together. It was perfect because I wanted the first gray stripe to start on the bottom and the last stripe to be at the very top. I sketched a little drawing and homemade two 9" rulers from cardboard to use as reference.   

The most time consuming of the process was taping out the stripes! It took us over 3 hours to finish taping the walls! In order to make sure our stripes were straight as possible, we took my handy homemade ruler and using a string or in our case a yarn, we placed the ruler from end to end of the wall and taped the yarn. Using the yarn as a guide, we taped it out with painter tape. Each wall probably took us 1 1/2 each.

Finally to the fun part, painting in the stripes. The paint color we selected  is Sterling (a very soft gray). From applying the first coat then letting it dry for 2 hours before applying the second coat, it probably took us a total of 4 hours or so to complete. We let is sit over night before we peeled off the tape. 

Day 3: Final Result

I LOVE how the stripes turned out and the color! Hubby approved as well and made sure he took most of the credit for it doing it LOL I did my fair share of helping him paint while being pregnant so I can get as much credit as he does Go ME!

I must say, we crossed out a good amount from the list so far. I'm quite happy of the progress we're making with getting her nursery done before I get any bigger. Now the search begins to find cute decor for her room. 

And So It Begins...

We are now in the process of turning the guest room into BH nursery.

The first phase is to clean and take everything out of the room. So far here is what it looks like now (I know, embarrassing right?) It was worst than this but we had clean/thrown out stuff the night before I took these pictures. I've also removed the old curtains and curtain rods. As for that other stuff that was in the room, they are currently being stored in the hallway and second bathroom.

And here is a quick mood board I put together for BH nursery. We don't know if BH is a girl or a boy yet, but I wanted to design the room to be unisex. I think my mood board suits both genders. The idea for BH nursery is to have the space light, simple and modern using clean lines with accent colors from the decor pieces.

There's still a lot left to do as we are still cleaning out the room. Hopefully we'll have the space cleared out  by the end of this week so we can start painting this weekend. Anyways, here is our list of to-do's for BH nursery:

This is only the beginning of our list and I'm sure we'll have to add more as we get into the groove of things. I can't wait until BH nursery comes together. 

Nursery Ideas

Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I can't help but think about how I am going to design BH nursery. Although we don't know if BH will be a girl or a boy, I alway knew I wanted to design the space in gray and white with a pop of color. I will most likely document the progress of BH nursery room once we start working on it. As of right now BH future room is serve as the guest room/storage room.
